NFL legend Troy Aikman has been warned amid rumours about a return to the Dallas Cowboys.

Troy Aikman is widely regarded as one of the best colour NFL commentators of all time. Despite that, the rumour mill suggests that Aikman may not return to ESPN after Super Bowl 2027.

Now, Aikman may join a rival network, but at the same time, there is chatter about the legendary NFL figure returning to the Dallas Cowboys in some capacity.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Nate Newton already has reasons why Aikman shouldn’t return to the Cowboys.

Nate Newton says Dallas Cowboys ownership will ‘clash’ with Troy Aikman

Aikman may have spent his entire playing career with the Cowboys, but he had his best years under the leadership of Jimmy Johnson.

That’s one of the biggest reasons why Newton doesn’t want to see Aikman take on an executive role with the Cowboys. In fact, the 3x Super Bowl champion went as far as saying that the Cowboys are a ‘dictatorship.’

“Ownership would eventually clash with Troy. You got to understand, Troy has one tree; that’s the Jimmy Johnson tree. … Troy loved every aspect of who Jimmy was and how he’d done things that meant ‘I control everything.’

“That ain’t happening with Mr. Jones. That ain’t happened with Stephen Jones. That ain’t going to happen. Miss Charlotte Jones. That ain’t going to happen with Jerry Junior,” Newton said.

He added, “So, Troy, I ain’t going to tell you where to sit your way in. But I’m telling you, try another team. That’s what I’m saying. Try another team.

“This ain’t going to be no committee, bro. This is going to be straight up – Not a democracy, but dictatorship.”

Considering Newton and Aikman were teammates during the Cowboys’ golden years, the advice meant no harm to the latter’s plans to be an executive.

However, Newton wants to make one thing clear: try another team and not return to the Cowboys as long as Jerry Jones is calling the shots.
