It is a rare treat when a rivalry that has lasted nearly a century finally lands in the heart of New England. The 99th meeting between Notre Dame and Navy takes place Saturday, Oct. 31, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. This is the home turf of the New England Patriots, a neutral ground that feels like a true home field for the Midshipmen given their proximity. ABC will broadcast the game starting at 12 p.m. ET. According to Yahoo Sports, fans can also catch the action on ESPN Unlimited, YouTube TV, Fubo, and other live TV platforms if they do not have a traditional cable subscription.
The history here is thick with one-sided results. Notre Dame has dominated the series for decades, holding a massive 84-13-1 record against the Navy. They have played every year since 1927, with the sole exception of 2020 when the pandemic forced a cancellation. That streak of continuity makes Saturday’s matchup feel even more significant. It is a chance to see if the underdog can finally break the long winning streak of the Fighting Irish. Per Yahoo Sports, the game is the centerpiece of a busy NCAA Football Week 9 schedule packed with other Saturday contests.
A Neutral Site With Local Roots
Choosing Gillette Stadium as the venue is a smart move by the organizers. It sits just north of Boston, making it an easy drive for Navy fans and a manageable trip for Notre Dame supporters. The stadium is a modern facility that has hosted countless big games, so the atmosphere should be electric. Unlike a game played on a campus field, a neutral-site game removes home-field advantage for both sides. It levels the playing field in a way that few other venues could. The 12 p.m. ET start time ensures the game is done in time for fans to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
How to Stream the Action
Watching the game has never been easier for those who cut the cord. You do not need a cable box to see the Midshipmen take on the Fighting Irish. According to Yahoo Sports, the broadcast is available on ABC, which means it is free over-the-air in many areas. For those who rely on streaming services, the game will be available on ESPN Unlimited, YouTube TV, Fubo, and DirecTV. This flexibility allows fans to watch from their phones, tablets, or living room TVs without missing a single play. It is a modern approach to a very old tradition.
The Stakes of Week 9
This game is part of a massive slate of college football action on Saturday, Oct. 31. The schedule includes matchups like Florida vs. Georgia in Atlanta and Michigan at Rutgers. While many games are happening, the Notre Dame-Navy rivalry stands out as the marquee event. Per Yahoo Sports, the complete Week 9 schedule runs from Thursday through Saturday, but this noon kickoff is the main attraction. The stakes are high for both teams to prove their mettle against a historic opponent.
