We’re going down with United – Man City fans turn to gallows humour

October 31, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

The storm may have abated a little as the outcome of their appeal is awaited, but the guilty verdict and possible demotion hanging over Manchester City for financial misconduct continues to be felt.

There was even some gallows humour on display from City supporters in the 1-0 home loss to Brighton as they took the chance to poke fun at their travails of their fiercest rivals.

Saturday’s game at the Etihad Stadium kicked off soon after Manchester United went down to their latest defeat at Chelsea.

“We’re going down with United,” chanted some City fans in an attempt to make light of the seriousness of their own plight – despite leading the Premier League at present.
