Wisconsin given nearly 10% chance to make College Football Playoffs

The 2026 campaign will likely be the last for a long time, when there will be just a 12-team playoff, meaning for the 5-2 Wisconsin Badgers, getting in will be a long shot, especially with two losses on their resume. 

That being said, according to ESPN’s FPI metric, the Badgers have a 9.8% chance of making the playoffs.

What would it take for Wisconsin to get to the playoff?

There is no point in beating around the bush: the Badgers have to be perfect from here on out. On their calendar remain games against Iowa, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, and Minnesota. 

On paper, UW’s games against the Scarlett Knights, Terps, and Boilermakers should result in three more wins. Unfortunately for Fickell, the Gophers have been much harder to find a win against, and the Hawkeyes can be a 50/50 proposition. 

How likely is it that Wisconsin makes it?

In all honesty, the Badgers will probably scoop out three or four more wins at max, which is still a strong season for what has been a rocky ride for Fickell.

Combine the positive momentum with hopefully another strong transfer class and high school prospects, and Fickell should be firmly off the hot seat.
