According to the latest numbers, Herbert now has 50 losses since entering the NFL in 2020, moving him past Baker Mayfield for the most among quarterbacks during that span.
The list of quarterbacks with the most losses since 2020 is now:
- Justin Herbert — 50
- Baker Mayfield — 49
- Daniel Jones — 46
- Jacoby Brissett — 45
The milestone comes during an especially difficult season for Herbert and the Chargers. Los Angeles remains winless after the Week 8 loss to the Rams, with the team falling to 0-7 on the season. The Chargers have now become the only winless team remaining in the NFL.
Herbert’s career has included plenty of individual success, but the team’s inability to consistently turn that production into wins has followed him throughout his time in Los Angeles.

Sunday’s loss was another difficult performance for Herbert. He completed 24 of 32 passes for 257 yards but threw two interceptions and failed to record a touchdown as the Chargers fell 24-9 to the Rams.
The two interceptions were particularly costly, with both coming on throws that were intercepted by Rams defenders. Herbert’s performance continued what has been a rough 2026 campaign for the quarterback, who has struggled to find consistency in an offense that has been unable to get the Chargers into the win column.
The Chargers entered the season with significant expectations after adding Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, but the offense has instead become one of the team’s biggest problems. Herbert has received a significant portion of the criticism as Los Angeles searches for answers.
Now, Herbert’s place atop the NFL’s loss list since 2020 adds another unwanted statistic to a season that has gone dramatically differently than the Chargers hoped.
With seven losses already on the board this season, the Chargers will need a major turnaround to prevent Herbert’s unwanted milestone from becoming an even larger number over the remainder of the year.
