A Long Time Coming
Williams-Barnett has been regarded as possibly the hottest prospect within Spurs’ academy for some time and has already had glimpses of first-team football prior to his debut on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder was named in senior matchday squads at just 16 under former manager Ange Postecoglou during the 2024/25 campaign, a season in which he contributed 20 goals and 12 assists in just 23 games for Tottenham’s U18s.
He made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers in September 2025, coming off the bench in the 87th minute, before making another cup appearance in the 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic earlier this season.
However, Williams-Barnett’s Premier League debut is something Spurs fans have been anticipating for a long time, and the cameo against Palace will leave them excited to see more of the English teenager.
An Immediate Impression
Williams-Barnett replaced Mathys Tel in the 88th minute of Spurs’ 2-0 win over Palace, and despite playing less than ten minutes, certainly left his mark on proceedings.
Playing off the left flank, he showed a confidence beyond his years to take on his marker and drive forward, and shared his confidence in the video posted by Tottenham: “Dream come true really, as I got on the ball, I wasn’t really scared, I just wanted to get the ball and show what I can do, and really just enjoy it.”
Williams-Barnett almost grabbed an assist on his debut, as he embarked on a brilliant run, beating Palace defenders Anan Khalaili, Dario Osorio and Chris Richards, before finding Mohammed Kudus, but the Ghanaian forward skewed his effort wide with the goal at his mercy.
The stadium erupted for their young star, something the 18-year-old admitted he had been thinking about before he came on: “I was on the sideline and I was thinking how can I get this crowd going even more? I just feel like, this is surreal!”

The Last Word
Williams-Barnett’s cameo will certainly give Roberto De Zerbi food for thought, especially given injuries to various attacking players such as Savio, Mykhailo Mudryk, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons.
De Zerbi has previously spoken very positively about the teenager, and his Palace performance would certainly have done little harm in increasing his chances of getting more opportunities as the season progresses.
The attacking midfielder provides a different, direct option off the bench, and De Zerbi will surely be keen to give him more chances to develop within senior football when the time is right.
While one brief appearance does not guarantee a regular place in the first team, his performance against Crystal Palace was definitely a positive first impression at the highest level.
