WNBA Finals Game 7 Draws 3.3M+ Viewers, Most Since 1997
The first Game 7 in WNBA history is one of the most-watched games in league history.
Game 7 of the WNBA Finals, which fell on Halloween Saturday, drew more than 3.3 million viewers on USA, CNBC, and Peacock. The figure is based on preliminary numbers from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, a source tells Front Office Sports. The final number is expected later this afternoon.
The Valkyries defeated the Dream in Game 7 to win their franchise’s first title after just two seasons in the WNBA. If the viewership number holds, it would be the most-watched WNBA game, regular-season or postseason, since the league’s inaugural season in 1997.
Before this century, only three WNBA regular-season or postseason games breached 3 million viewers, according to Sports Media Watch.
A Fever-Sky matchup in August became the first regular-season game to pass that threshold since 2000, drawing 3.3 million viewers on NBC. (The 2024 All-Star Game, the first to feature Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, drew 3.4 million viewers on ABC, though it was an exhibition game.)
Based on the current number, the average viewership of the seven-game Finals series is 1.89 million, the most-watched WNBA Finals series ever, surpassing the five-game series between the Liberty and Lynx in 2024 (1.5 million).
The per game viewership average of the Finals was:
Game 1: 2.1M (NBC, Peacock)
Game 2: 1.33M (USA, CNBC, Peacock)
Game 3: 1.71M (USA, CNBC, Peacock)
Game 4: 1.9M (NBC, Peacock)
Game 5: 1.4M (USA, CNBC, Peacock)
Game 6: 1.5M (USA, E!, SYFY, Peacock)
Game 7: 3.3M (USA, CNBC, Peacock)
The numbers come despite several schedule changes during the Finals, particularly for Games 3, 4, and 6, which were played in Atlanta.
Less than a week before the series started, the WNBA rescheduled Games 3 and 4 to allow the Dream to host games at the 17,000-seat State Farm Arena rather than the 3,500-seat Gateway Center, where they played regular-season games.
But the WNBA only rescheduled Game 6 until after the teams were tied at 2–2, which guaranteed another game in Atlanta. The game was rescheduled to 12:30 p.m. ET on a Thursday, which led to significant uproar due to a possible closeout game turning into a weekday matinee that made it difficult for fans to tune in.
The game ultimately delivered 1.5 million viewers, which was around the same as the average of the 2024 WNBA Finals.
