Carlos Baleba injury: Michael Carrick says hamstring problem ‘doesn’t look great’ for Manchester United

Michael Carrick has admitted Carlos Baleba‘s hamstring injury ‘doesn’t look great’ after the Manchester United midfielder was forced off in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Roma.

Baleba pulled up clutching his hamstring just moments after the half-time restart at Old Trafford and appeared to be in tears as he made his way off. Carrick consoled the 22-year-old on the touchline.

It is a cruel blow for United’s £70million summer signing, who was only making his fifth start for the club. His debut had already been pushed back by an ankle problem he picked up during pre-season with Brighton.

Baleba is almost certain to miss Sunday’sPremier League visit of Aston Villa. He is also expected to remain at Carrington during the international break so United’s medical staff can assess him further.

The Cameroonian is set to miss his nation’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification double-header with Namibia.

Carrick stopped short of offering a timeline, but his tone after the game suggested United are bracing themselves for a lengthy absence.

“I haven’t got any more news on Carlos at this stage,”said Carrick.

“It’s his hamstring, so we’ll just have to assess what that looks like. Initially, it doesn’t look great. Timelines, I haven’t got much more to give you.”
