Steve Kerr clowns Republicans after midterms for not getting the “Trump Dividend”

In the days leading up to the 2026 midterm elections across the nation, United States President Donald Trump ran an ad featuring Trump promising Americans a $5,000 check if Republicans keep control of Congress. The ad even found its way onto UFC Fight Night broadcast the Saturday before election day.

Knowing that Trump and the Republican party were polling horribly leading up to the election, in large part due to gas prices spiking since the United States launched strikes on Iran earlier this year, the “Trump dividend” of $5,000 was promised to every American if Republicans hold on to both the House and Senate. Although Congress would still have had to approve the checks before anyone saw any money, it was ultimately a moot point.

The Democrats dominated Tuesday’s elections across the nation and gained control of both the House and the Senate. On Wednesday, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, a longtime Trump critic, even took a dig at the President and his dividend.

“What no questions on the election? I’m surprised,” Kerr said during his media availability. “I’m just I’m disappointed because I was looking forward to that $5,000 check that we were all going to get. I thought for sure… I already spent it in fact… Now, I’m gonna have to figure something out.”

In April, when it was uncertain whether Kerr would be returning as the coach of the Warriors, NBA reporter Marc J. Spears is speculated that some of the uncertainty might be tied to his willingness to speak on social justice issues.

“He speaks out on social justice issues, he speaks out on racism issues, he speaks out on gun violence, and I’ve heard a little bit that maybe he’s being stifled a little bit in that regard,” Spears said.

Ultimately, it proved to be a non-issue, as Kerr inked a lucrative extension to return, and it seems his outspokenness has come with him.
