Chiefs WR Rashee Rice reportedly files for bankruptcy, citing $3.45 million in debts following fallout from 2024 car crash

November 5, 2026 · by SPW Pipeline

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has filed for bankruptcy, according to court filings obtained by multiple outlets. In the filings, Rice reportedly claims that he has more than $3.45 million in debts.

A significant chunk of Rice’s debt, per the filing, stems from several lawsuits that the receiver has faced over the past year. Rice was sued by multiple victims of a Dallas car crash he allegedly caused in 2024, and was also sued by an ex-girlfriend in February who alleged that he physically abused her for over a year.

Rice, who reportedly filed the claim in the Northern District of Texas bankruptcy court, says that more that $2.1 million of his debts are tied to the lawsuits. The civil suit for the crash was settled in July, with Rice set to pay $1 million (plus lawyers’ fees) to the two plaintiffs; the lawsuit with his ex is still awaiting trial.

Rice filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which will result in the liquidation and sale of assets to help repay debts, rather than Chapter 13, which would create a payment plan using the person’s regular income.

In the filing, Rice reportedly claimed $677,054 in personal assets, which includes $421,825 in “deferred compensation.” Other assets reportedly listed include a Mercedes-Benz worth $53,000, an apartment lease worth $3,500 and $5,000 in NFL jerseys and hats. Rice also placed his Super Bowl LVIII ring, which he valued at $160,000, as collateral, per ESPN.
