With the unfortunate news that the Baltimore Ravens continue to get surrounding their quarterback room, with Lamar Jackson expected to be out for possibly the remainder of the season and backup quarterback Snoop Huntley now out for the year, it was fair to wonder if Baltimore could be interested in a guy like Mac Jones, the former New England Patriots starting quarterback who is now with the San Francisco 49ers.
While it remained uncertain whether the 49ers would actually move on from him, it felt like if a team was going to be desperate, it would be Baltimore.
However, that’s not the case, as reports have now indicated that the Ravens are trading for Jacoby Brissett of the Arizona Cardinals.
Brissett has been playing decent football throughout the season but was benched in favor of Gardner Minshew. While this trade doesn’t directly impact New England, there are some reasons why it could.
"The Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade to send quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal is expected to be completed this weekend. The Ravens lost starting quarterback Lamar Jackson to a potentially season-ending thumb injury that will require surgery. Backup Tyler "Snoop" Huntley has a turf toe injury that will end his season, sources told Schefter and Rapoport earlier Wednesday," ESPN reported.
The Ravens are undoubtedly one of the better teams in the NFL when everything is right. Bringing in Brissett will help them be a much better team than they currently are with no legitimate quarterback option on the roster.
Whether it saves their season and impacts New England will only be known with time, but the former Patriots quarterback could play spoiler in the second half of the season.
The Ravens and Patriots are both in a position to make the postseason via the wild card if everything goes as planned for both organizations over the next couple of months.
New England is in a much better position, sitting at 5-3, while Baltimore is struggling. However, they’re close enough in the playoff race that this could affect the rest of the season.
