Auburn, Florida State & Georgia targeting No. 6-ranked Austin Leonard
Austin Leonard is Rivals’ No. 6 overall player in the 2029 class. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard at Grayson (GA) High averaged 15.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.9 steals with Jet Academy on Nike’s EYBL E15 Circuit this summer.
“I think I’ve gotten more physical, and my body has become more mature,” Leonard told Rivals. “I’m learning how to use my body more during the game.”
Leonard was invited to compete at the USA Basketball October Minicamp.
”I think I played well,” Leonard said. “I just competed. There were a whole bunch of great players, so I wasn’t too focused on scoring. I was just trying to play well with the players around me and make them better.
Rivals was able to catch up with four-star Austin Leonard to discuss the latest with his recruitment.
“I have offers from Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and a couple more,” Leonard said.
Leonard discusses Georgia, Florida State, Georgia Tech & Auburn
GEORGIA: “I know Jacob Wilkins. He was at Grayson when I was, and he committed there. I also know Jarvis Hayes just committed there. They’ve got a good program. Ant-Man (Anthony Edwards) was there, too. So, it’s definitely a consideration for me.”
GEORGIA TECH: “They got a new coach. I know Kayden Allen just went there, along with Tylis Jordan. They’re all Georgia players.”
FLORIDA STATE: “They have an NBA coach (Luke Loucks) and all that stuff. I know Chauncey Wiggins was there; he’s a former Grayson player. He went there, liked it, and had a great career over there.”
AUBURN: “I like Auburn. They’ve got a good program. They had a good season last year. They got Tahaad (Pettiford) over there. I’m definitely considering Auburn.”
In Austin Leonard’s words
“We’ve also heard from BYU, Miami, and Tennessee,” Leonard said. “That’s all I can think of right now.
“I’m looking for consistency. I want the coaches to constantly check up on me. I just want to build a good relationship with them so I can truly know who they are and if they’re a good fit for me.”
